Hair falls out at the end of it's growth cycle and it is normal to loose between 100 to 125 hairs every day. Hair goes through a resting phase and after 2 to 3 months of the resting phase it falls out and new hair regrows. People begin to worry when they experience more hair thinning or loss than normal.
There can be several causes for this and it is important to understand what is happening to your body. Possible causes of hair loss in women can include stress, pregnancy, illness, major surgery, thyroid problems, hormonal problems, lupus and certain medications. If your hair is falling out because of stress, illness or surgery you may not notice your hair falling out until three to four months after the event. This kind of loss is temporary, but it is scary to lose large amounts of hair.
One very common possible cause of hair loss in women is after giving birth to a child. Due to the excessive hormones during pregnancy our hair tends to get thicker. After birth the hormones are no longer there and all that extra hair falls out. This could also be related to the stress and exhaustion of having a new baby to care for. Not to worry though, this kind of loss is temporary and your hair will return back to its normal state before pregnancy.
An unhealthy diet and lack of vitamins could also be among the possible causes of hair loss in women. If you have not been taking care of yourself, try a good quality multi-vitamin and you may start to notice a difference in the amount of hair you are losing.
There are illnesses that can cause loss of hair, so it is important to speak to your doctor about what is going on. Just in case there is an underlying disease that needs to be treated. More than likely there would be other symptoms accompanying your hair loss. Stress, vitamin deficiency, hormonal changes and hereditary are the main causes of hair loss in women.
