Discover Why Hair Loss For Women May Not Be Permanent

Hair loss for women can be devastating. After all, we are used to seeing men with bald heads yet even though it appears that we do not see many women suffer from hair loss the figures are actually as high as 1 in 4 that do suffer. And I think suffer is the right word because for men the hair can be shaved down short and to a certain degree laughed off, but for women hair is a major way of how they present themselves to the world and when it starts to come out it can cause panic.

But there can be several reasons behind thinning hair, some permanent, some temporary and the first thing to do really, is have a look at what is going on in life first to see if there are any clues there. For instance stress can be a major factor behind hair loss. The reason for this is because way back through the ages if a human was put under any pressure it was normally a fight or flight situation, and this being the case chemicals were released into the body and the appropriate action was taken. Nowadays though there is a lot more stress and normally there is no action taken so all of these chemicals stay within our body and have nowhere to go, and hair loss can result from this.

Another area that should be looked at is your diet. The western diet now is not as good as it once was in the types of food that we eat; and also in the fact that the food produced now is not of the quality it once was. This means that fresh produce that should be good for you are not packed with as many vitamins and minerals as they once were. This is significant because vitamins and minerals play a key part in the production of healthy hair. Particularly vitamin B and the minerals zinc and magnesium.

Hormones play a key part in hair loss for women too, especially after the menopause. The reason for this is that before the menopause estrogen kept any testosterone produced under control, but after when there is less estrogen then you have more free testosterone in the blood stream. When this mixes with the enzyme 5 alpha reductase it creates DHT and if you are sensitive in the scalp to DHT then it will thin the hair out until the follicle dies. This kind of hair loss can be permanent although HRT can sometimes help in cases like this.
